And, this week….IT’S OKAY TO INDULGE IN YOUR FAVORITE SWEET TREATS.
Tuesday was National Junk Food Day. Buh-bye, broccoli. See ya later, salad. Peace out, peas.
I am taking this delicious, non-nutritious holiday to nurture my inner child. Yep, today, she gets to devour BIRTHDAY CAKE OREO DONUTS at one of my favorite places– Donut Bar in downtown San Diego. Check out all the “junk food” donuts Santiago Campa created for this momentous day.
I invite YOU to celebrate National Junk Food Day with me. Think of your favorite junk food that comforted you as a child. You know, the one that put a HUGE smile on your face, spring in your step, and made the world an big, bubbly, bright place! For me, that’s Kit Kats. It reminds me of when my brother and I, 8 and 9 years old, got to walk to 7-11 by ourselves to PICK OUT OUR VERY OWN CANDY BAR. The excitement of walking six blocks there, putting our allowance money on the counter, and the thrill of eating every single bite and giggling together……mmmmmmmm! A wonderful chocolatey treat….and an even more delicious memory of care free, fun adventures with my little brother, Alan.

Tomorrow, we can go back to our kale protein shakes, grilled chicken, and rice cakes. But, not today!!!! TODAY, WE WILL TREAT OURSELVES TO THE JUNK FOOD ON THIS HOLIDAY WE SO RIGHTLY DESERVE–while we cherish the first moments that, as children, made them so sweet.
